Into the woods - Try out
San Diego/America - 1986

Joanna Gleason, Chip Zien, Barbra Bryne, Ellen Foley, LuAnne Ponce, John Cunningham

Slightly discoloured, but crisp capture of the premier (?) of this fantastic show, brilliant for its age! Filmed from the side of the second row, which can sometimes be an uncomfortable angle. B-

Reunion concert. Rare video of Original Broadway Cast performing in concert for charity. Cameraman wanders from the action a little too often, unfortunatly. Sound is great however. Also included on DVD is a 1970's & 1980's interview with Sondheim.

Proshot. A gorgeous open air set, and a wonderful cast. The new version with the child narrator + actual trees really add up to the show, with a nice twist at the end. Eddie is really charismatic, this boy is going places

A fantastic capture of this production at The Old Globe before it transfers off-Broadway. Originally produced by the Fiasco Theater. Very original take on the production.

Into the Woods - Reunion Concert
Costa Mesa (CA)/America - November 9, 2014

Stephen Sondheim, James Lapine, Bernadette Peters, Joanna Gleason, Chip Zien, Robert Westenberg, Kim Crosby, Danielle Ferland, Ben Wright, moderated by Mo Rocca

A great capture of this historic reunion in Costa Mesa. The cast and creative team sits down to talk about their experiences and what they’re doing now, as well as perform songs from the show. The reminiscing includes discussions of the Wolf’s pendulous anatomy, cut scenes/songs, backstage secrets, and a potential sequel. This is perfectly captured from start to finish with no blackouts, no obstruction, and no washout. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. Includes curtain call and playbill scans.

Into the Woods
LA (Wallis Annenberg Centre), America - December 16, 2014

Miriam A. Laube (Witch), John Vickery (Narrator/Mysterious Man), Jeff Skowron (Baker), Rachel Warren (Baker's Wife), Jenny Greenberry (Cinderella), Miles Fletcher (Jack), Goodrin Nordli (Jack's Mother), Kjerstine Rose Anderson (Little Red Ridinghood), Jeremy Peter Johnson (Cinderella's Prince/Wolf's voice), Royer Bockus (Rapunzel), John Tufts (Rapunzel's Prince), Catherine E. Coulson (Cinderella's Stepmother/Milky White/Grandmother/Giant's voice), Katie Bradley (Florinda/Sleeping Beauty), Christina Clark (Lucinda/Snow White), Robert Vincent Frank (Cinderella's Father), Mauro Hantman (Steward), Howie Seago (Wolf)

The first two and a half minutes of Act One are blacked out, but the show is intact after that, and beautifully-filmed. The show was stopped during the Act Two Finale for a medical emergency in the audience, but the show resumes without a hitch.  Some of the directorial choices seem a little odd (The Wolf-played by two people; and Red Riding Hood use American Sign Language to communicate while singing, etc). But overall the show is very clever and entertaining, and the critics loved it.
